Grants
Grants are only available for the highly gifted? Wrong! In fact, there are many different scholarship providers who award their grants according to very different criteria. Social commitment, personal life situation or political commitment can play an important role. The best thing to do is to look around on the internet and find out which grant is the right one for you.
Our recommendations:
In case of financial difficulties, you may be granted an interest-free guaranteed loan!
You're about to graduate and want to concentrate on your exams instead of a part-time job? Understandable. If you are therefore short of money, our loan may be the solution. In such cases, the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg can grant you an interest-free guaranteed loan that will get you through the graduation phase without any financial stress.
The prerequisite for this is that you can be expected to complete your studies properly. In concrete terms, this means that you must provide evidence of academic achievements that show that your degree is within reach. When submitting your application, you must therefore enclose proof of your studies or the confirmation of registration, for example, for the Bachelor's thesis from the Examinations Office, in order to prove that you are actually already a degree candidate. If we have already received this proof with your BAföG documents, you can waive this requirement when applying for the loan. It is also important that you can present a current certificate of enrolment and that you have a suitable guarantor.
As a rule, the loan amounts to a maximum of six times the monthly BAföG rate, which is currently 4020€. The money is paid out in the last six months of your studies, and you have to pay it back six months after the end of your studies.
For first-year students on social benefits
Prospective students from families who receive certain social benefits are often not in a position to pay the first semester fee due for enrolment. These social benefits are unemployment benefits, social assistance, basic assistance, child supplement according to § 6a BKGG or benefits according to the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act. Since 2017, Studierendenwerk Heidelberg has been providing affected prospective students with one-off scholarships in the amount of the respective semester fee. This is intended in particular to enable prospective students from parents who are far away from higher education or prospective students with a migration background to take up a course of study.
Applications must be received by the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg at least four weeks before enrolment at a university.
