Social counselling at the Heidelberg student union is meant to be an addition to the psychotherapeutic counselling, the legal advice at the Heidelberg student union and the study advice offered by the university.
Due to the fact that many people have seen their financial situation worsen in the last couple of years, an increasing number of students find themselves in serious financial difficulties, which are often so severe that gifted and ambitious students toy with the idea of leaving higher education.
The social counselling of the Heidelberg student union acts to stop this situation arising and helps students to avoid making hasty decisions. It is a point of contact for all students who are experiencing problems or difficulties in their current life situation - be it practical or financial - and who are looking for ways to solve these issues.
The social counselling helps to find individual solutions, together with the students, to issues such as: covering the cost of living, pregnancy and childcare, as well as life planning in general. It provides extensive information and advice about all degree-related help on offer. In addition to this, the social counselling also acts as mediator between students looking for advice and the responsible offices. Students with a disability are offered support by the social counselling for all questions relating to studying and living in Heidelberg.
